JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:                          Production / Secondary Finisher

REPORTS TO:             Plant Manager

CLASSIFICATION:       Full-Time: Hourly/Non-Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Performs all tasks involved with the production of plastic parts by completing all final/secondary processes to produced parts as specified on the bill of materials for each roto-molded part ensuring established requirements and standards are met.  Follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Must be familiar with and have the ability to use basic hand held manual and/or power tools such as drills, mallet, screwdrivers, air gun, router, scraping tools, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment for prolonged periods of time of extreme heat and/or cold

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred; plus
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and must provide documentation upon application for e-verification purposes with the Department of Homeland Security
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken; Bi-Lingual is a plus

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assures a minimum 40-hour week schedule as defined by each shift’s schedule
    • 1st Shift – 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
    • 2nd Shift – 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm
    • 3rd Shift – 11:00 pm to 7:30 pm
  • Performs the daily functions of secondary finishing for plastic parts as defined and distributed daily by the lead associate and/or the plant management staff as defined in the full function of the manufacturing/finishing processes:
    • Receive the rotational molded plastic part from the production floor
    • Stage the part in the appropriate area for the appropriate finishing process as defined in the Bill of Materials (Custom, Bio-Diesel, Floatation, Laundry and Linen)
    • Complete the necessary finishing procedure for each part which may include, but is not limited to:
      • Scraping, Trimming, Routering, Flaming, Foaming, Assembling, Installing fittings/hardware, Cleaning, Vacuuming, Packaging, Wrapping for Shipping, etc.
    • Maintains good attendance and punctuality for start of each shift and breaks to comply with production schedule
    • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations
    • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable mechanical conditions of the machinery to the lead associate and/or plant management staff
    • Adheres to all general safety rules and the established DPI Safe Workplace Practices at all times while in the designated finishing areas as well as surrounding areas of the entire facility

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned by supervisor and/or management

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Assures at least 40 hours per work week as defined by shift schedule
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and/or memorandums, instruction manuals and safety manuals, in English
  • Continuous communication with employees, owners, officers, management team
  • Use of independent good judgment when troubleshooting problems or determining needs
  • Frequent use of basic math skills
  • Continual stooping, bending, crouching, grasping, climbing, reaching or light lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing or pulling (up to 150 lbs.); Continual or prolonged periods of standing, sitting, or walking; Prolonged periods of exposure to extreme heat and/or cold in the manufacturing environment
